We Bavarians have a rich inheritance of really delicious cakes. Traditional home-baking is very popular and Sundays never passed without a nice cake in the afternoon, when I was little. Loads of them are made with nuts or quark (fromage blanc), nut creams, marzipan and poppy. So expect sweet surprises! Most of the recipes have been passed straight down in my family, and because Austria and Swiss are very appreciated neighbours in our Alpine region there are also some famous cakes and bakes from these countries.
